The Layer-List
A curated edit of our wellness picks and the science-backed resources we’re loving right now.
🧴 In Rotation
Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara: A cult favorite for a reason. It’s now available in a brown shade for a softer look. We also love the lash-conditioning ingredients like shea butter and arginine. And notably, it’s carbon black-free (a known irritant and potential carcinogen found in most mascaras) and doesn’t include fragrance or sketchy preservatives. We’re obsessed.
One note: like most clean mascaras, this one’s best replaced every ~3 months, especially if you’re actually using it daily.
Daily Voice Memos: A simple practice we’ve been loving: recording quick voice notes—one for the morning, one for night. These are personal affirmations or reminders you listen to as the first and last thing you hear each day. They help ground your mindset, set the tone, or gently close the loop before bed.
Pro tip: Have ChatGPT write them for you, then just record them in your own voice as a voice memo. Tailor them to whatever season you’re in or what you’re hoping to move toward right now.

📖 Rethinking: The Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean diet has long been considered the gold standard for heart and brain health. But in Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Georgia Ede invites us to take a closer look.
She argues that staples of the Mediterranean diet like whole grains and legumes may not be as beneficial for brain health as commonly believed. These foods contain anti-nutrients, such as phytates and lectins, which can interfere with mineral absorption and potentially impact cognitive function .
Dr. Ede emphasizes the importance of nutrient-dense animal foods, which provide essential nutrients like vitamin B12, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids in their most bioavailable forms. She also highlights the role of insulin resistance in mental health, noting that high-carbohydrate diets can lead to blood sugar fluctuations that affect mood and cognition .
If you’re curious about how dietary choices impact mental well-being, Dr. Ede’s work provides a compelling perspective that challenges conventional wisdom and encourages informed decision-making.
Until next time.
X,
Team Layermor
